The African Union Commission notes and welcomes the meeting between Somalia’s Federal Government (FGS) and Federal Members State (FMS) leaders in Dhusamareeb and is encouraged by the leaders’commitment to establishing a technical committee to discuss the modalities for the 2020 elections.
The African Union Commission underscores that this process should herald a broad consensus in Somalia on the way forward as part of charting a common vision among Somalia’s leaders. Additionally, the African Union Commission looks forward to the successful conclusion of this process that should offer a workable solution that widens to the greatest extent possible the number of voters.
The African Union Commission underlines that the deliberations should end in a timely manner as required by the Constitution.
