President Hassan welcomed outgoing United Nations Special Representative for the Secretary General James Swan to his office.

The President’s Office tweeted on Tuesday, “Prez Hassan bids farewell to Amb. James Swan, the outgoing UN Special Representative following the end of his mandate.”

In the middle of May of 2019, Amb Swan took over for Nicolas Haysom, who had been declared Persona Non Grata by the Federal.

To the Federal Member States and political oppositions, Amb. Haysom raised concerns about the Federal Government of Somalia’s use of extrajudicial and political coercion.

Ex-Prez Mohamed Farmajo used the political power and impunity he gained through Amb Swan’s appointment to purge his political opponents and critics.

Amb. Swan had been accused by the coalition of political parties, which eventually led to the armed conflict in Mogadishu, of being in bed with Villa Somalia and a major enabler of Mohamed Farmajo’s ill-will intentions.

After what have been called the most difficult years in recent Somalian history, Ambassador Swan is stepping down from his post.
